Harsco Infrastructure (SGB) has supplied six Mastclimbers™ mounted on a specially designed steel mezzanine to help refurbish a 16-storey block in London. The six single-masts, reaching 55m in height, are being used by Concrete Repairs Ltd (CRL), to install a new Insulated Render cladding system and new aluminium windows to Park Towers, a high-rise apartment block in Brick Street, London W1.
Situated in the heart of the densely populated Mayfair, and surrounded by narrow and busy streets, access to Park Towers proved a major challenge for the CRL and Harsco Infrastructure design team. Hemmed in by a low-rise two-storey building housing the popular Rendezvous Casino, access at the ground level of the tower was impossible. Any construction work being carried out on the tower would also impact on the casino.
To overcome these restrictions, Concrete Repairs Limited and Harsco Infrastructure designed an access solution that situated the Mastclimbers™, along with temporary site accommodation, on a steel supporting structure built over the casino roof. Equipment was delivered to site in carefully planned phases to avoid congestion in the surrounding streets and disruption to the casino. Instead of a mobile crane, the contractors used special roof-mounted goods hoists to lift the Mastclimbers™ components into place.
“Park Towers required a technically challenging, bespoke access package, with site safety and minimal disruption to the surrounding area absolutely paramount” comments CRL Senior Contracts Manager, Ben Lawson. “Harsco Infrastructure successfully came up with a solution and gave full consideration to our requirements and those of neighbouring businesses and residents”
Harsco Infrastructure’s contract for CRL at Park Towers is due for completion in March 2009.
