The UK’s most accomplished specialist contractors were recognised with a coveted Construction News Specialists Award at this year’s gala dinner at the London Hilton, Park Lane on March 5 2009.

Recognising and rewarding the best specialist contractors in the business, the Specialists Awards is one of the construction industry’s most notable annual events. The awards are judged by a panel of esteemed industry figures, including Alan Crane who said of the awards: “The Specialists Awards are a unique opportunity to celebrate the real success stories with the people who actually do the great majority of work in our industry. The quality and standards of the entrants continues to get higher, which makes the judge’s job even more difficult“.

Nick Edwards, editor of Construction News adds: “From the huge infrastructure projects that make history to the refurbishment and maintenance jobs that make life better our Specialists are the sector that will dig us all out of this downturn”.

Covering all aspects of specialist contracting, the 2009 awards introduced three extra awards for Training, Sustainability and Building Envelope which consolidates two older categories (Cladding & Glazing with Stone & Brickwork). Winning an award is one of the industry’s greatest accolades.

Neil Murray, Harsco Infrastructure (at the time known as SGB) Group Head of Health and Safety commented on winning the Health and Safety award: “Being a scaffolding and access specialist, health and safety is always going to be top of our agenda as providing safe work at height solutions for our customers is the first priority. We take pride in the strong reputation we have built and it is always an honour to be recognised for our continued efforts.”

Owned and organised by Emap Inform and supported by the National Specialist Contractors Council, The Specialists Awards is the only annual event for specialists in the construction industry.
